GST

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax (or consumption tax) levied on the supply of goods and services. The tax came into effect from July 1, 2017 for one nation one tax.

GST aims to replace all indirect levied on goods and services by the Indian Central and State governments. GST would subsume with a single comprehensive tax, bringing it all under a single umbrella, eliminating the cascading effect of taxes on the production and distribution prices of goods and services.

Goods and services are divided into five tax slabs for collection of tax – 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.

There are 3 taxes applicable under this system: CGST, SGST & IGST.

CGST: 50% of applicable rate collected by the Central Government on an intra-state sale (Sales and Purchases within States,WB)

SGST: 50% of applicable rate collected by the State Government on an intra-state sale (Sales and Purchases within States,WB)
